How should the word ‘DIET’ make you feel?

What do you think and feel when you hear the word 'diet'? Read about the 'Feed Your Passion' ethos. For us diet and healthy eating are about so much more than weight loss. Find out why here!

Searching the term ‘diet’ in Google will yield approximately 1.3 billion results. ‘Keto’ was apparently the second most Googled word in 2019. The human race is obsessed with dieting. ‘What diet did Adele follow?’ ‘What does J-Lo eat?’. The problem is that our understanding of ‘diet’ has been warped for the benefit of business.

We compare ourselves to others with such frequency and vigour because the industry wants us to. Of course they do, the human nutrition market will be worth an estimated $465bn by 2025. If we were suddenly happy and healthy in ourselves and stopped comparing ourselves to celebrities and athletes, that figure would collapse. That’s just not good for business! The industry is built on making us feel bad about our bodies, and ‘less than’ others. How do you sell fat loss pills? Make people feel fat. How do you sell muscle building shakes? Make people feel skinny. Happiness isn’t good for the economy.

The diet industry is built on making us feel bad about our bodies, and ‘less than’ others.

Diet shouldn’t be thought of as a verb. When I talk about diet, I’m not talking about a temporary way of eating, cutting out food groups, or fasting. Diet isn’t just about losing weight or looking better naked.

We often hear people say “I’m going on a diet” but the truth is, we are always on a diet, because our diet is just what we eat every day of our life. It really is that simple. When I talk about diet, I don’t want you to think of restrictions, or the things you’re not allowed to eat.

When I talk about diet, I want you to think about how you’re providing your body with the nutrients it needs so that you can be at your best every day. The food that you eat can do a lot to keep you fit, healthy and well. I want you to feel connected to the food you’re eating, understanding why it’s important and appreciate every mouthful.

When I talk about diet, I want you to think about how you’re providing your body with the nutrients it needs so that you can be at your best every day.

I don’t recommend fad diets because unfortunately the vast majority are unsustainable, unhealthy or both. I believe in eating a range of healthy whole foods every day, with some satisfying treats thrown in for good measure! My aim is to make it easy for you to eat well and to feel confident that you’re giving your body and mind what they need to be healthy; it’s as pure and simple as that.

I will help you to change your relationship with the word diet, so that it no longer triggers shame or feels restrictive. Instead I want you to be positive and excited about how great eating healthily will make you feel. As a full member of the Feed Your Passion community, you will have lots of delicious recipes at your fingertips, nutritious meals that don’t ever compromise on taste. I also run Q&A sessions, so that you can let me know where you need extra guidance, or what you’re most curious about!

Changing the way we view what we eat will help us to achieve our goals, whatever they are. I simply provide you with the information needed for you to enjoy what you eat, and to understand why you’re eating it and how it helps you to feel healthy.

Let’s get started shall we?
